Learning and Human Development

 Introduction: competency 1C

As a church leader, businessman, musician, and teacher, one of my expectations is to be a professional reader in a variety of areas of leadership. In other words, I have to seek knowledge coming from education, personal and professional experiences, and books. I always see the need to improve my skill, knowledge, and expertise to lead and influence human development. Together with I need to evaluate the strengths and concerns of how organizations and groups learn, and according to the different approach of leadership, they change. I also need to review the theories and scholarly literature regarding how my leadership learns.

What is it for?

Leadership fosters an understanding of the principles of learning and commitment towards to a continuous personal, interpersonal, group, and organizational learning  (Leadership & Learning Plan – LLP, p. 19)

Reflection Paper & Competency-Rubric Evaluation

See the following artifact(s) as listed on the Reflection Paper, Chapter III, MY LEARNING AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT IN ACTION:

As my introduction in presenting these artifacts, I want to share my role model, my father.  He is always seeking new knowledge and improving his school education taking new courses. At 76 years old, he graduated in two theological courses in Brazil which one of them was an extension from Andrews University.

In 2011 as a preparation for the roundtable conference at Andrews, I took the strengths finder questionnaire. The results show that my five strengths are: learner, includer, achiever, strategic and significance. I remember that the desire for learning is something that comes since I was a little child.

My Andrew’s acceptance letter that allowed me to begin the leadership program.

I enrolled at Andrews University in US and York University in Toronto, Canada. At Andrews University, I am still working and planning to finish it in the 2017-19 school year.

Andrews Acceptance Letter

At York University, I completed a two-year program in the summer of 2015. The Canada government offers this course to all qualified newcomers professionals to the country.

This course worked in two ways: 1. To understand the Canada landscape regarding of laws, business, market, and culture, and 2. It worked as a “recycle” where I could improve my knowledge in the business and management fields.

As a material for learners and human development in music I have written a “Piano chord book: A practical approach.” This book has the intention to teach students how to play piano by chords.

I am participating in the learning and human development as a music teacher for my step-son (Richard) and daughter (Hillary). I have been teaching music since their early ages. They play several musical instruments such as piano, alto sax, flute, ukulele, and violin. They have participated in recitals and school events around the town.

Also, as parents, my wife and I, last year we had the privilege and the gratitude to see our son deciding for baptism. Now, Richard is SDA member.
